The Process vs. The Appreciation
We just printed a 38x70" picture for the office and Keith commented that I should ask Rachel to come over to take a picture in front of the picture. This kicks off a discussion of juxtaposing my process of creating these images with how I am able to appreciate the images for what they are after they are done. This conversation raises interesting questions such as: 1. How do artists view their own work? 2. Why are some artists unable to appreciate their own work (particularly when it's dated)? 3. Why some artists are unable to appreciate another artist's work when they have a personal issue with that artist?

Some people have it and some people don't. Should you encourage those who obviously don't have it to pursue a dream that might lead to their ultimate demise? We live in a culture where we tell people to "follow their dreams" but is it responsible for an educator to encourage a student to chase a ghost when he/she knows the student could find greater success and subsequent happiness elsewhere?
